Thanks for the input, Sevnn.
My compulsive side wants to drop $3K on drives, but I might save that for a little later down the road. I'll probably stick with the 150GB raptor for a while. I'm taking about 22-25GB worth of photos a month right now, though, so I'll definitely need some cheap storage a little bit down the line.
My dream storage solution would be 4x 150gb Raptors, 4x 500gb Seagates, in separate RAID5 arrays. I selected the Stacker case and the PC P&C 510 PSU for that very reason. Now that they have PCI-E SATA RAID controllers, the throughput is definitely worthwhile for an add-on card.

Just finalized the deal with Goathead, pricing was very good. Probably only 7-8% higher than Newegg, plus he's going to assemble it for me before he ships it to me.
+1 for Goathead

The Intel 965/975 chipsets with the full ICH7R (such as my Supermicro) have the SATA Raid chip tied into the PCIe bus so its not bandwidth limited. If you go that route you can expand in the future by putting one array on the board and the other on an add-in card.

Have you received this yet LC?
I'm thinknig about doing a D930, x1900XT, and 2GB G.Skill DDR2 800 kit for an upgrade now and then next year get a conroe to slap in it.
I think I'm gonna wait till next month tho when motherboards built on 963/965 chipsets that will specifically be built to support Conroe from teh get-go so that I can be sure I can upgrade to conroe on down the line.
eeerr.. I mean Core 2 Duo... (man these marketing asshats need to get a life) _________________ For with what measure you measure it will be measured to you.

the name just means it's the second iteration of the core duo line of processors. _________________ site5 hosting • facebook • flickr

*lol* and how long has my cheapass $10 PSU lasted. So much for the arguments for High Dollar PSUs. hehe
(sorry just had to since all the ribbing I get for using cheap components ) _________________ For with what measure you measure it will be measured to you.
