I like Seagate and Maxtor and Hitachi. In that order, all the WD drives I've had have failed just outside 1 year. _________________ Blargle Flarg Bergah Merg

I like the WD's. Never had a single problem with them. I planned on getting a Maxtor because I heard that they make a good storage drive but suck as an OS drive.

I have a 4 gig IBM that's still chugging along after over six years (last time I tried to use it anyway). I also have a 16 gig WD that's around four years old and used every day. My main drive is an 80 gig WD and I've had no problems with it after nine months or so.
Maxtor is the only brand I've had problems with, and I hear a lot of bad things about Seagate, but don't have much experience using them.

WD's are my current favorite. I have bought or told people to buy 10+ of the SE hard drives in the last year, and not one has failed.
Go WD.

Yes, best board I have ever had. The thing I like the most those is the dual channel. It just screams with that set up. _________________ More RAM than Dodge!

Yeah I'm running that. It surprised me how much quicker it is running dual channel. _________________ "Wherever you go, there you are" - Buckaroo Bonzai

so how does one setup dual channel. I have 1gb of ram on my shuttle sn45g but I never did anything to enable/disable dual channel. _________________ Thats the Biz sweetheart.

As long as you have 2 512mb 400mhz modules you should be golden.
If so there is a setting in your bios to enable this. Dual channel mobos seem very picky so if you have low quality ram it may give you problems. _________________ "Wherever you go, there you are" - Buckaroo Bonzai

I have a 13gig ibm thats been running for damn near 5 years now, a wd thats been running for a year... and in the shop I work in, I have seen many maxtor hd's die.... not really any of the newer models... all I can say is that quantum is the bane of all other hd's. _________________ "You can drink a shy girl crazy, you can drink 'till that good girl sins.. you can even drink an ugly girl pretty, but you cant drink a fat girl thin" -Jeff Daniels

You have to have the RAM in different channels. I think it goes 1 2 2. So if you set it up that way you should be fine. _________________ More RAM than Dodge!

1.2tb of Western Digital drives, I thought I had a problem with one a year ago. It would occasionally "click" and then spin up again. Turned out to be the molex power connection.
Someone once convinced me that probably half of the hard drive failures were either caused from power supply problems or overheating.

260 GBs of WD Drives, never had a problem with any of them, and use all 3 of them on a daily basis. ( Some are fairly new. )
