For anybody that's interested...
You can't disable UAC through the normal Control Panel in 8 as you can in 7, but you can still disable it.
Start > Run > gpedit.msc

Security Options
Set "User Account Control: Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode" to Disabled.
Not particularly fancy/complicated, but I finally got tired of it nagging me and decided to kill it. This also resolves issues with applications that run as admin at startup not coming up.
