As much as I love the snarky video and hate how watered down shooters are these days... can't argue with money
Quake 2 sold one million copies (they don't specify if that's lifetime or what). Black Ops sold 7 million in the first day. Current total estimate is around 18 million copies sold (and I assume this doesn't include Steam).
So yeah, we are the tiny minority who actually like games for games, when we could play thousands of hours of CS without a single unlock or achievement. We could dive right in to games like Tribes with complicated classes, gadgets, and vehicles, and we our brains didn't burst from confusion & overload. Like it or hate it (how could you like it!) it's here to stay though.
I was so sad when I played Rage at QuakeCon this year. It was an awful console port. There was some tiny hope they'd fix it in the time between then and release but that was wishful thinking. I'm really curious to see what is going to be pushed at the next LAN. They all bug disavowed any knowledge of even releasing Brink (you had to get a manual IP from some random byoc volunteer to even find a single, not full server), and I'm sure not many are excited about doing Rage multiplayer at the LAN. I guess we'll just be playing QuakeLive till the end of time there!
edit: oh yeah, f*** logos at the start, always skip those by any means if possible. Leave that for the console games
