Maybe you or someone else could explain the reasoning behind this statement. From what I understand personally, the LGA 1156 platform is currently receiving the most attention from AIB's and aftermarket companies....and the Lynnfield line, whether it be the i3's, i5's or i7's, are the hottest selling chips on the market rite now.
I know that the LGA 1366(Bloomfield) i7 cpu's overclock the best, because they lack the on-die PCI-e controller that is an integral part of the Lynnfield(LGA 1156) chips design. Add also the fact that Bloomfield supports triple channel memory, I can see how some would consider this platform more future proof.
But is it worth the money?
After a month or so of debating and waiting for price drops that finally happened, I pulled the trigger on an i7-860(1156). If I was smart and not chasing a bigger number, I would have got the i5-750....basically the same chip minus hyperthreading and $80 dollars less.
I also forgot to mention that the 1156 Lynnfield chips can only do 16X on a single PCI-e bus, if you run SLI or X-fire on them....you're only going to get 8X per card which is a bummer.....the LGA 1366 platforms do not suffer this fate.
I started out this post by asking a question, and I think I just answered it myself.
...I'm going to bed, fuck you guy's.

Well, if you haven't bought a motherboard I won one at the Intel LAN Fest Dallas that might interest you. Intel DP55SB, support 2-card CrossfireX or SLI, general all around great mATX board. I'm trying to get it sold for around $175 if you're interested or want to make a deal.
Anyways, the lifespan will be shorter because that socket is not planned to be supported for as long as the 1366 is. The 1156 was always planned as the more mainstream Nehalem, with the 1366 for enthusiasts, and I am about 99.9% sure that there will be no significant upgrade from your i7 860 on that platform where as the 1366 already has a hexacore chip available.
That said, the i7 860 is actually a bit faster than the i7 920 at stock until you hit points where the triple channel memory takes over. I think it's a fine platform, I was just warning against having to possibly change motherboards to make a BIG jump in performance later on. _________________ Failure is just success rounded down.
