The Ultimate Question : Which graphics card to buy  Reply with quote

Hi guys, ok for those that had kept up with my previoud thread i did the simple thing with my ram, i took out the old, and just used the new 2gs, it seems to work great, and BF2 ( the whole reason i bought it ) is working awesome.

So now for something new, i have an Nvidia 6600 gt 128mb and I need a new graphics card and i need to decide on one by january. I have a extended warranty at compusa on my card, and i plan on taking it back and upgrading, its a 250.00 card so that plus whatever extra is what i have to spend on a card, the only limititation is it must be AGP because i dont feel like droppign alot on redoing the system for PCIe.

I would like to stay in the 400.00 dollar range but don;t mind jumping up into the 500.00 range if it is more then worth the difference. i know there is alot of ATI fans and Nvidia fans here so im hoping to get some good feedback form all of you.

So the cards i have been looking at are as follows: ( the links to compusa site is below them )

500.00 cards

Verto GeForce FX 5950 Ultra Video Card, AGP, 256MB DDR

370.00 cards

Verto GeForce 6800 GT Video Card, 8x AGP, 256MB DDR3

i would get a 6800gt or the 6800gt oc from compussr.

when are you looking at going pci-e? if all you lack is a mobo, a pci-e equipped mobo can be had for damn cheap.

I agree with both things nimdawhore just said. Mainly, I would get the 6800GT.

However, I can also see not wanting ot go AGP yet, but if your looking at getting a new vid card already, then $70-90 more for a PCIe mobo is not that much extra.

BTW, who the fuck voted for the crappy 5950??? Shocked
