Macbook Pro issue  Reply with quote

Well, I'm working on a MBP for a friend, the tilted power button issue, and I've come upon a problem. I have no Torx bit small enough to take this sucker apart. Can anyone point me towards a CHEAP set that can get me where I'm going? Right now I think the smallest I have is a T10, and I'm clueless as to where my smaller set it.

EDIT: Borrowing a set now from Leb120, but still need another of my own.

Not a problem, those are the same tools I use when working on Macintosh Computers.

Anyone have an idea as to why the same MBP would instantly power off occasionally when the Enter key is hit?

I don't know, but it sounds like that time I bound Albiorix' Space Bar to /disconnect in Quake3.
It took him 10 minutes to figure that one out.

I used to have a Torx bit set from Walmart, it had all the way down to T5 I think. Might be worth looking into.

I don't know why, but I do know the solution is to replace the keyboard. Potentially the whole of the top piece as well. It could be a keyboard issue, it could be an FPC issue. It could also be a short underneath the keyboard on the motherboard. If some debris is in there I could see this happening.

Yeah, I checked for debris and to my best ability for a short and no such luck. Unfortunately it's not a 100% of the time problem, just intermittent. Oh well, thems the breaks for the apple kids.

Do you mean "brakes?"

I have a secret for you. Apple kids know that apple products break sometimes. We know this well. It is still the nicest broken thing I have ever used. Smile

To be quite honest, since I started working on Apple stuff I really think the hardware failure rate is quite close to the PC hardware failure rate. Per capita of course. And just like with PC hardware, shit happens. Nothing is completely infallible.

They are all, by any practical definition of the words, foolproof and incapable of error.
