as far as gaming goes 6 core CPU's are pretty useless since nothing uses all cores. Although it is sweet when you have a program use all the power.
almost better to go with sandy bridge as nothing in AMD's lineup can compete....or even intel for that matter. Hell my 6 core i7 1366 @ 4.3Ghz gets outdistanced by a Sandy Bridge Quad at 4.2 Ghz. _________________ Core I7 4790K @ 4.7 Ghz

Whats the model on the Sandy Bridge?
I figured with the x6 I would be set as games/programs are released that can utilize them?
Also vid card will make the most difference still wont it? Im looking at like a 460SE unless theres a better bang for the buck?
I am going to finally do this before BF3 comes out......Im totally stoked about it. _________________ K-SWISS Power cologne. Who knew you could bottle the scent of boner?

As far as GAMING is concerned, the PhII x6 setups are more than you'll need for awhile, the GPU will still be your bottleneck. _________________ Failure is just success rounded down.

Yeah I figured as much, so the 6 core should last a good long while.
Whats a comparable ATI to the Nvidia 460 SE? _________________ K-SWISS Power cologne. Who knew you could bottle the scent of boner?

Oh nice link man.....though isn't Tom a huge sell out?
Whats the word on drivers? Either one better than the other? Last vid card I bought was when ATI was having horrible issues getting their drivers right while Nvidia was knocking it out of the park? _________________ K-SWISS Power cologne. Who knew you could bottle the scent of boner?

many claim that toms is a sellout....I read them all the time and I do think they have a slight Nvidia bias but its nothing out of the ordinary (i.e. you will have a level of bias from every site out there/its just human nature).
As for Drivers ATI's drivers have improved although they are still clunky and have some issues. And like you said Nvidia's are just a joy. Simple to use and (at least for me) have never given me issue. _________________ Core I7 4790K @ 4.7 Ghz

I have an ATI card in my work computer (not by choice). I was having some font issues using the windows update drivers for the card. I decided to try the latest and greatest from ATI. I've not seen the font issues, but I haven't had enough time to verify they fixed the problem. What I did notice is that my WEI score went from a 3.7 to a 3.3. The rest of my machine is high 5's.

The drivers are certainly improved in alot of aspects but the entire reason I ditched my pair of 5970s for GTX 480s was driver support. _________________ Failure is just success rounded down.

Bumpasaurus - I am finally getting around to this new PC build!!!!!!
I want mATX as I don't have the space for a full size case, nor do I want one. Just tossing this out there for some comments before I get with Mike to start ordering some parts. Any comments?
I think the below is one hell of a bang for the buck.....total is like $725
I have room for processor upgrades and GPU upgrades, SSD drive if I ever want or 2nd HD.....any suggestions before I start to move forward?
I will be using my HP2311x 1080p monitor as my display. _________________ K-SWISS Power cologne. Who knew you could bottle the scent of boner?

After some research and thought today, I may bite the bullet and go full ATX in a small case.....that way I can get a mobo and power supply that will easily allow me to SLI an additional 560 down the road. _________________ K-SWISS Power cologne. Who knew you could bottle the scent of boner?

in gaming it looks like even the I3-2100 thumps on the best AMD chip.
i'm personally looking at the i5-2400
might just save up for the 2600K though.

That's all fine and good but look at compatibility for SSDs and whatever else you plan on supporting on it. I can't really see a reason to build Sandybridge over Nehalem right now. _________________ Failure is just success rounded down.

Why Nehalem, Nikola?
From the cpu side it looks like you only have the 950 and 960 under $500.
The 2600K seems to best both of them.

Yes, but not in any useful metric that will matter until a higher-than 1920x1200 NVSurround setup and the current Sandybridge mobos have quite alot of compatibility problems with various memory, nothing new here, A LOT of new SSDs, pretty much all of them, as well as various PCI-E addon cards like sound cards and other things.
Aside from that the 920/930 is EXTREMELY affordable used and I have never particularly understood buying a new CPU if you don't plan to overclock the living shit out of it. The CPUs come with lifetime warranties because they rarely, if ever, die of natural causes. _________________ Failure is just success rounded down.
