HDR photography is pretty spiffy, been messing with it a bit on my new dslr.
photoshop cs2 and photomatix seem to be the two most popular methods of generating them, you either need 3-5 pics at various exposure levels or a raw image file to start with.

that's because they used HDR lighting effects in HL2
basically it's just a violation of tonal hierarchy, and when you overuse it you get these surreal looking pics like the ones posted. used sparingly you can create images that are very close to what the human eye can see, as opposed to the limited exposure available in a single camera image. the reason single raw images work is that they retain alot more image information than an image immediately converted to jpg, so you can manipulate the exposure more. alternatively, you shoot 3-6 jpgs at various exposures and use the software to align and merge the images.
takes alot of color tweaking and a little practice

Yah, I saw that after posting that it had changed to the car... thats why I deleted the post. Theres one in there that I really like. I might see if I can't get a super huge "sofa sized" print of it. _________________ Smell is the only sense that doesn't sleep.

I told Andy he needs to enlarge, print, frame and sell these photos @ Sunfest.
He was like, "great idea!". Hes always looking to make a little $$ and with the quality of the Bartlesville pics, Im sure he could.
There are also some of a car. Those were taken out by the airport and were the first ones he showed me.
*edit*
11:02PM - He just sent me a link of pics he took today.
