Looking for a couple video cards...  Reply with quote

So as some of you know my secondary computer is driving four monitors. Its doing this via a couple 8800GTS cards I have. And needless to say they are less than ideal. The produce alot of heat in the rack case, use tons of power, as well as make for tight quarters. Also for a comp that doesn't play games they are overkill.

Been looking around for a couple low spec cards to replace them. And thanks to my OCD it has proved difficult to do it on the cheap. I want them to be the same card, be single slot, and have two DVI ports each. The cheapest on newegg are like 30 bucks for a 9400gt but thats after pain in the ass rebates and before the 8 bucks shipping on each card.

So yeah, if anyone has or knows where I can get something like these I would be very interested....the cheaper the better. I really don't want to go over 80 bucks or so.....

Both cards having DVI is gonna kill it for you I think. If you relax on that point you can find what you need for very very cheap.

Geforce 210

http://www.buy.com/prod/geforce-210-graphics-card-nvidia-geforce-210-589mhz-512mb-ddr2-sdram/q/listingid/53952998/loc/101/212423437.html

Then just get HDMI->DVI cables since you're going to need them anyway.
Or hang DVI->HDMI adapters on the monitor so you can run HDMI cables all the way.

Lists for $299, which is not cheap, but drives 4 monitors and only uses 13 watts (according to engadget)

I realize the price of that card puts this option out of reach, but just as an FYI you wouldn't need new monitors. Just four $9.01 cables.

Yeah, wouldn't really work in my situation.....as the comp is located in the rack and I already have payed a pretty penny for four 25ft DVI cables to get from the rack to my desk Rolling Eyes

But I appreciate the idea

Just get four of the six inch long standard minidisplay to DVI adapters and plug your existing cables into them.

You might want to check to see if a minidisplayport to dvi cable would actually work with that card, if I remember right, ATI put another card out that comes with 2 minidisplayport to dvi cables. The only catch to it is that out of the six minidisplayports, only two at a time can put out to DVI or VGA, the other 4 can only put out to displayport, they might be able to do HDMI, but I'm not sure.
