360 dash update removes external media HDDs  Reply with quote

If you use an external HDD with your 360 to play music or videos then don't get the latest update until you get online and read about it. I can't get my 360 to see my drive anymore and I'm reading online that no one else can either. But in place of this I can use a 16 gig thumb drive. Wow, I'm so lucky. GRRRRR

Here's one post with a bit more detail:

So now I have a paper weight in the shape of a 360. I wish M$ knew I don't have this thing to play games on. That's just a secondary reason for having it now days. I don't think I've ever wanted to bitch about something so bad.

This will bode well for the boxee box, coming soon priced at $200

www.boxee.com

Sell the 360, get the boxee box and tell M$ to fuck off.

I don't think boxee.com is what you were talking about.

I've been using the boxee software for a bit, it's kind of cool stuff.

Cool, the remote has a qwerty on the back of it. That's cool.

PS3 Media Server ftw! Tversity as well if you want something with a little more flexibility but more buggy/slower.

I run ushare on Ubuntu for DLNA.

It seems as if it only catalogs on startup. I have an original Xbox that I run XBMC on, and I usually end up

    Restarting ushare
    Removing the source from XMBC
    Cleaning the library in XMBC
    Rebooting the XBOX
Adding the source back in XBMC

Obviously a PITA. Thankfully I don't export a lot of crap to the XBOX... I need to just set up Samba shares and go on about my business.

I've had my 360 for 4 years or so and been using it with a USB HDD. I'm just pissed they bricked it in the last week.

the shitty low end computer is hooked up to my TV via HDMI. C2D E6750 2GB DDR2-800, Geforce GT 220, etc etc.
the xbox cost $50 and plays Mickey Mouse and other Netflix DVDs i have stored on the shitty computer. It's hooked up to an el cheapo 27" CRT TV.

No better network media player under $100 than the XBOX IMO
