Awesome January LAN - Despite The Rain!

January was lot's of fun! We had cold rainy weather, but 30 players showed up and made it a great success. There was a lot of diversity in the games played, CoD, Halo, Desert Combat, Toca (Racing), UT2003, Unreal 2, and even some Quake 3 CTF.

The CoD tourney was close on every match. We played 5v5 Team Deathnmatch on Caretan. There were three teams. Winners took home $10 cash each for their victory!

Thanks to everyone for a great day, let's fill the house on February 21st!

Dont Forget: New Location of the LAN

Don't forget to go to the NEW LAN location, still at Shepherd Mall but now in room 40-B See everyone there tomorrow! Great sign-up this month everyone! 52 Players, everyone show up and let's fill the house. We still have 2 slots open. If more than 2 additional player show up, anyone on waiting list can enter at 1pm!

  Happy New Year

Out with the old, in with the new! 2003 was an interesting year; i wonder what's in store for 2004? I hope everyone had a happy and safe "New Year," and i look forward to another year of fraggin' with you guys.

  Ho Ho Ho!

From all of the Staff here at the OKGG, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Happy Kwanza, and all the rest!! Hope you and yours are enjoying the holiday season as much as we are. See ya next year.

  Reinforcements Have Been Received

The Sign-up Page is back online, with the all new Tournament voting system. Well, it's not really a system, just a couple more combo-boxes with game entries. You can now vote for a team-based tournament and a 1v1 tournament. Occaisionally, we will put on retro tournaments, like the quake 2 1v1 tourney of several months ago and December LAN's Re-Volt tournament, just to shake things up a bit.

Go signup for January's LAN already!

Merry Christmas ... and Send Reinforcements!

When Goahed and I arrived at the mall at 8am on Saturday and discovered the mall had gutted our beloved LAN room, we thought the worst. Security informed us the mall had moved our group to a new room, which was "quite a bit smaller" than our previous room. But upon further inspection and after setting up, we've concluded that our new room will be quite a bit better: we can accommodate more people, power-wise, with a few modifications. That's right, guys, we can fit another 12 people at the least in our new room! With that being said, let's get another packed house in January!

Our new network bundles turned out well. I think we only had one bad cable. So props go out to all those who helped with the networking: Goose, ephil, Brules, Sevnn, Sagz, Goahed, and Shinobi.

This month's tournaments didn't quite flow smoothly. For one, I don't think Re-Volt was EVER intended to be used for tourneys. We had all kinds of problems with serving and connecting, but eventually we got through it all. We had 23 people signed up for the tournament, broke that down into 6 games of 4 (except for one), where the top 2 advance to the next round. From this round, we had three games of 4, where only the first place winner advances to the finals. and from there, only first place wins the prize. The map "Toys in the Hood 1" at 3 laps and only the base RC cars were used. And away we went...

Congratulations goes out Ziffer, who took first in the tournament and won a mini RC racecar as his prize! Way to go! And thanks to all those who participated and didn't win a damn thing. :P

Because we had so many problems and got off to a late start on the Re-Volt tourney, we didn't have enough time and planning for a CoD tournament. Next month, however, we WILL have the Call of Duty tournament. So bring your game faces and be ready to play!

The Gallery has been updated, so go check out all the fun we had at the lan. I'm working on the Sign-up script to allow for vote for a team and 1v1 tourney game, so that should be working within another day or two. Thanks for your patience.

Come join us next month, where we have more fun at our lans than a make-believe rollercoaster ride! See ya then!

  We Have Moved!

We had a great LAN party on the 20th, 49 people came. But for those who don't already know, we also had a BIG surprise. Without warning, the Mall moved us!!! As it turns out, they tried to call Adam Lewis of the old OLP staff, even though we had given them new contact info.

So anyway, we are now in room 40B, inside the Mall. There is no outside door access at all. You enter through Door C on the north east side of the Mall. See "DETAILS" link. But we managed to get set up, even with our new patch cables and newly installed, mobile racked, switches complete with cascade cables. Because of the new switch configuration, we had a super fast LAN! There were a few power issues, but those should all be fixed next month, now that we know the room better.

The Re-volt tourney was a lot of fun. It ran WAY longer than expected, and since Jester had problems with the CoD server config, that was the only tourney this month.

Sign-Up is temporarily down for an update that will let you vote on the tourney you want to play. Watch for it to be back up soon. Then everyone sign up for the January OKGG LAN! We should have some great prizes, since we have actual cash funds now!

Make sure you check out the December 2003 photo gallery. Thanks to everyone who came out. See everyone on January 17, 2004!

  Show Up!

Only a couple of days left before the December LAN Party and we have a very full roster. I just wanted to tell everyone that the official deadline for being checked in is no later than 2pm. If you are not checked in or pre-paid by that time, your seat will be given to the next person on the waiting list.

For those who are on the waiting list, I would definitely show up around 2pm and see if you can get in. We have had as many as 12 people fail to show up, without notice, in the past. So you have a good chance of getting in even if you are low on the list.

Anyone who cannot come, please email admin@okgg.org before midnight on Friday so that we can update the list. The list will not be updated after that time. See everyone there, and remember to bring a toy if you can.

  December LAN Toy Donations

Last year at the OLP we took donations for kids for Christmas. It went over really well, I delivered lots of toys to the Citizens Caring for Children right before Christmas. We tried to do it through Toys for Tots but they had a cut-off date before our December LAN, so I think we will do it again this year for the Citizens Caring for Children. This organization helps victims of child abuse and neglect.

Nothing sucks worse than not only being abused, but also forgotten as a child at Christmas, so if you can contribute, please do so. This is absolutely optional, if you can't afford it, we understand. Price of the object does not matter. Spend what you can. There are some gift guidelines posted so visit the forums for more details.

  Just a Reminder

With less than a week after the previous lan and already 52 have signed up, it appears we will have a full house in Demember. If the signup is full and you haven't signed up, go ahead and do so to ensure your name on the waiting list. Not everyone who signs up can make it, so when they're removed from the roster, the waiting list names get bumped up.

  GGs!

5][ reprezented in the "I-Don't-Own-Halo" Tournament!! With a record of 4-0 in a round-robin style tourney, they smashed all those who stood in their way. Congratulations!!

The "I-Don't-Own-Halo" Tournament, named as such because the winners each received a copy of Halo, started around 2pm with just a few minor glitches. The tournament rules and setup were as follows:

   Game: Battlefield 1942
   Mode: Capture the Flag

   Map: Battleaxe
   Time Limit: 15 minutes
   Team Size: 3
Team Selection Method: Players grouped themselves

   Team 5: 5][Evisr8r, 5][Spyder, 5][Reaper

And the tourney played out like this:

  Match 1 Match 2 Bye

0 1 0 2
Round 2 Team 1 Team 3 Team 5 Team 2 Team 4

That was the first tournament of the day; on to the second:

   Map: Bloodgulch
   Time Limit: 15 minutes
   Team Size: 3
   Team Selection Method: Random Draw

   Team 3: nitelite, Skidz, t-diddy
   Team 4: Goahed, shinobi, Handyman

   Team 6: b-buck, Anti, sevnn
   Team 7: Brules, SuperDuck, MightyMouse

And here's who came out on top:

Team 7, from left to right: SuperDuck, Brules, and MightyMouse

Team 5, from left to right: k_os, Ziffer, A Little Girl

Team 7 took first: $10 per person, while Team 5 took second: $5 per person. I'm blaming Team 7's success on the fact that they had to play only one game to get in the finals. :P Good Games Everyone!

Much thanks go out to all those who came. Without you guys, this lan wouldn't be possible. Keep on coming, the lan will only get better if ya do! The Gallery has been updated, and the Roster has been cleared, although you might not have noticed since it's less than a week after the lan, and we already have 52 signed up!! If you haven't done so already, go Sign-up quickly! See you guys next month.

  Variety

From left to right: Over Buzz, Goose, Shinobi.

Team 6 went the distance, defeating Team 5 in a nail-biting final match. Each team member received a copy of Halo for placing first! ...and Shinobi FINALLY wins a tourney!! :P

From left to right: LightningCrash, Sevnn, Spanky.

Team 5 placed second and each team member received a HeadShot Gaming Mousepad.

The tournament rules and setup were as follows:

   Mode: Capture the Flag
   Type: Single Elimination
   Map: Battleaxe
   Time Limit: 15 minues
   Team Size: 3
Team Selection Method: Team captains chose teammates
   In-Game Team Selection: Coin Toss
   Winner Determination: Flags Captured
   Tie Breaker: Spawn Point Holdings

   Team 3: Goahed, Moosedog, Iceman
   Team 4: evisr8r, Reaper, SuperDuck
   Team 5: Sevnn, LightninCrash, Spanky
Team 6: Shinobi, Goose, Over Buzz
   Team 7: Skidz, Ziffer, Habitat
   Team 8: Atomm, Racer, Jester
Team 9: Nite Lite, n3m3sis, sting

And here's how it all played out:

I titled this update "Variety" because that's exactly what the game choice was yesterday. I saw many different games being played, including Halo, Desert Combat, Quake 3, the XIII multiplayer demo, Unreal Tournamnet 2003, Warcraft 3, MechWarrior 4, CounterStrike, and even Worms World Party. I'm sure there were others played, but that's all i can remember at the moment. It is awesome to come to lan and be able to play anything and everything under the sun.

Much thanks goes out to all those who came yesterday. Without you guys, we wouldn't be here today. The Gallery has been updated with pictures taken yesterday by Goahed, Brules, Sagz, Goodboy, and Jester. Check 'em out! And The Signup has been cleared for November's Lan, so go sign up!

Stay tuned for updates about future lans. There's talk of joining forces with the Edmond Lan Group in December, cancelling the OKGG's March Lan so we can all represent at the ExtremeLan being held at the Cox Convention Center, and coordinating again with the Edmond Lan Group in June for a huge 200+ person lan.

Prizes Purchased for October Tourney Winners!

OK, let's see if this gets sign-up going. We need to fill the house, so we can keep doing this kind of stuff.

Feeling generous and wanting to pay back the gamers who helped the OKGG get from new and over $1000 in debt, to completely out of debt in less than 5 months, we decided to make this LAN party an opportunity to win a great prize.

Yes it broke the bank and we are flat busted, but it will be worth it to usher in a new generation of gaming.

Some of you like being soldiers in a game, driving tanks, flyng planes, using sniper rifles and bazookas, like Counter Strike, BF1942 and Desert Combat. Others like the old school games pairing "red vs blue" like Quake I, II, & III, and UT and UT2K3.

And since this month's tourney was voted Desert Combat 3v3 CTF, likely on Battleaxe map, that is the game you'll need to play in order to win this month's top prizes.

By winning you'll be transformed from a modern day soldier soldier into deep space soldier, because the 3 players on the winning team will win .............. Drum roll please ..................

HALO!

That's right, each player on the winning team wins a new $49.99 Halo game. Also, each player on the second place team scores a Headshot MousePad from our sponsor.

So that's it, now sign-up...otherwise I will have NO PROBLEM carrying home one of the copies of Halo for my very own. See you on October 18th! Bring your friends too. We'll be able to buy even better prizes next time if you do!!!

  Donate to the Cause

Here's a new way to help your LAN Party grow, help us get better equipment, prizes, etc.

Your donation will allow us to get new travel cases for our servers and switches, build a bundled patch cable network so you can leave your patch cable at home, buy great prizes for LAN Tournaments, and much more. Donate over $100 and get a FREE OKGG T-Shirt and Badge as our thanks for your generosity!

It's easy, you can use PayPal Donate to send us what ever amount you see fit. Every donation will be used STRICTLY for OKGG LAN Party benefit. You can rest assured that all money accepted for our LANs, shirt sales, donations, etc. is fully accounted for by our staff. All staff members have access to review the books.

So if you want to help the OKGG grow, just click the PayPal Donate on the left side menu on our home page. (No credit card donations please, as they cost us a fee. Also at this time we do NOT accept payments for LAN Party entry fees, etc. This is only for donations.)

Thank you for helping the OKGG!

  Gallery Updated

The Gallery now exhibits Goodboy's and Goahed's Pics for September. So go check them out.

  Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Around 26 people attended the September 2003 edition of the OKGG and much fun was had by all. There was a return of some old faces, as well as the addition of some new. And for those that didn't show up, you guys sorely missed out on a good fragging.

Many games were played. Most notable were Desert Combat, Rocket Arena 3, Jedi Academy, Enemy Territory, and Quake III Instagib CTF. The latter was used for a tourney this month, complete with prizes for First, Second, and Third. The tournament employed a round-robin style of play on map Q3CTF1 with 20 minutes per game. From a pool of 12, 4 team captains chose their teammates:

Team 1: Rezin, Goodboy, Goahed
Team 2: k_os, ChronicPain, Sagz
Team 3: Bone, Shinobi, Mobius
Team 4: Fusion, Detox, Genetic Weapon

  Match 1 Match 2
Round 1 Team 1 Team 2 Team 4 Team 3
[3] 1 [5] 0
Round 2 Team 1 Team 3 Team 4 Team 2
[4] 2 [9] 1
Round 3 Team 1 Team 4 Team 3 Team 2
1 [2] 3 [4] OT

With a record of 3-0, Team 4 took the tournament, and each team member won a nice Headshot gaming mousepad and two bottles of bawls. (From left: Genetic Weapon, Detox, and FuSiOn)

Team 1, ending with a record of 2-1, each won a bottle of bawls for taking Second. (From left: Rezin, Goodboy, and Goahed)

With a record of 1-2 and placing Third, Team 2's members each won a bottle of bawls. (From left: k_os, ChronicPain, and Sagz)

Finally, Team 3 placed dead last!! Although they didn't win a damn thing, we still made them take a "Humiliation Picture." (From left: Shinobi, Mobius, and Bone

The OKGG is now making money, so we can afford to buy tournament prizes. If you have suggestions for what we should buy or what games to play in order to win the prizes, head over the Forums and tell us.

I've already updated the Gallery with Brules' pics, and will soon update it with Goodboy's. If anybody else took pics and wants them in the Gallery, please zip up your pics and email them to me at jb@option5.net.

The roster has been cleared, so sign up now for the OKGG October's LAN. And please for the love of God and all that is holy, if you sign up, SHOW UP!! OKGGTHXBYE.

  Please Take Note

Setup time for attendees is from 10am to noon. Please do not come beforehand. As much as we appreciated those that actually helped the Staff setup prior to 10am, there were those that didn't and got in the way. With 8 people on the Staff, I think we've got things covered. Having only Staff members there ensures a proper and safe setup of equipment and also allows us to discuss issues that affect the OKGG. So, please, do us a favor and show up no earlier than 10am on Saturday. Thanks.

  Less Than a Week Left...

...for the 6th OKGG, and we only have 35 people signed up? I have a hard time believing that with over 125 people registered on the forums that we can only get 35 to sign up for the LAN. C'mon people! We need to pack the house this month to finally gets our debts settled and start buying some kickass prizes for future LANs. How would you like to be able to win video cards, motherboards, CPUs, and other hardware? That would kick ass, wouldn't it?!! Help us do this by coming to this Saturday's LAN and future LANs. Bring your friends!

With the release of Desert Combat .4 and the Quake 3 CTF tourney the Staff is organizing, this month's LAN should be chock-full of gaming goodness. So come get your frag on, and we'll see ya there Saturday morning!

July's Lan Will Be Hard To Top

It's unbelievable but yesterday's lan was even better than the June LAN! I almost hate to miss August for QuakeCon. It was great to see so many new faces and the return of some old friends from OLP days. We had 46 people show up to play plus about 6 spectatators.

The tourney was a LOT of fun. Brules had a 64-player double-elim bracket drawn up from his work; however, only 33 people took the challenge. Using Quake 2's OSP mod, a time limit of 15 minutes, and the map Q2DM1 "The Edge", away we went. With Sagz running 4 game servers per machine (16 total game servers) at a time, the tournament progressed without a hitch.

The last 4 games of the tournament were broadcasted via 2 projectors (one for each person's point-of-view) on the wall for all to watch. These last few games were played very well, and truly a spectacle to watch. In-game demos were taking from each player's point-of-view and are linked below. here's the breakdown of each of the games:

Game 1: n3m3sis 14
Goodboy 2
Game 2: ByPaSS 11
Argonian 4
Game 3: n3m3sis 9
Argonian 7
Game 4 (Finals): ByPaSS 5 (OT)
n3m3sis 4

The last game was a real nail biter, ending with ByPaSS defeating n3m3sis in about the fifth minute of sudden death overtime. Much congratulations go out to the top four players. the undefeated ByPaSS won the DFI Lanparty KT400A Motherboard!!! n3m3sis took 2nd place, winning a pair of nice binoculars, and Argonian won a new OKGG T-Shirt for placing third. And a pat-on-the-back goes to Goodboy for taking fourth.

We sold more of the badges and T-shirts and with all the attendance we managed to get within $10 of being debt free this month! The August LAN is for charity only, we will only collect $100 no matter how many people come to play, up to 54 of course. But there will be no food, drinks, sponsors or prizes next month. In September we will rebuild our cash and have a few small prizes and of course sponsor swag and raffles, and in October we will begin PURCHASING prizes for tourney winners, as well as soliciting vendors for swag and prizes, and raffle items, and we will begin upgrading the network gear. The trend will continue in November and December to purchase prizes and upgrade the LAN. Hopefully by the end of the year no one will need a patch cable as the switches and servers should be rack mounted and patches will run in bundles to each table.

So the OKGG is alive and well and growing as planned. Thanks to everyone who came from other LAN Parties this month. (GamersLan'd, and the Edmond LAN to mention a few) We had fun meeting you and hope you will return again soon. We encourage everyone to try out other LAN parties too! It's great to see a packed house again, lets keep it rolling from this point forward. See everyone after QuakeCon in September! Those who can go, fill the house in August; it'll be CHEAP!

The Gallery has been updated with 150+ Pics from MooseDog, Lilie, Detox, Goodboy, and Goahed. Thanks guys, and girl ;), for all your pics. If anyone else took pics and wants them in the Gallery for all to see, email me a zip of your pics, and I'll get them optimized and up on the site.

The Sign-Up has been cleared and is awaiting your registration for August.

Later, and thanks to ALL for the help and the best LAN Party YET!!

  Full House

As you may have noticed, we have all 54 seats filled at July's Lan Party, with several already on the Waiting List. If you know for sure that you cannot make it tomorrow, PLEASE email me AS SOON AS POSSIBLE so that we can free your spot for the next in line on the Waiting List. I would sure hate it if I was on the Waiting List and could make it to the lan while someone who signed up for it didn't show up.

For those already on the Waiting List, if you live close Shepherd Mall or you don't mind breaking down your rig and hauling it over there anyway, drop by late afternoon, and if there are some no-shows, we might be able to squeeze you in. COME AT YOUR OWN RISK! We may not have any open spots for you, but from previous experiences, not everybody who pre-registers shows up.

  July Tournament Game Announcement

DFI has generously sponsored a LanParty KT400A U/V reactive motherboard (a $159 value!) for some lucky OKGG'er. So the Staff have figured what better way to win such a kickass motherboard than to have a 1v1 tournament. Now we've thought long and hard (huh huh huh) about what game we should use, and it boiled down to an old classic that everyone *should* be familiar with, *should* be able to run on their system, and *should* be able to buy:

QUAKE II

Specifics, such as the bracket setup and maps, will be decided later or may be decided upon on the lan by you guys. "For the gamer, by the gamer" has been the OKGG mantra, so it's only fair we let you guys decide. So go find it, buy it, play it, practice it, cuz you're gonna need it if you want to win the sweet motherboard sponsored by DFI.

  OKGG T-Shirts are in Production

Goahed has put the order in and we should have our t-shirts by July's Lan Party for everyone who ordered one (or three) to show off their OKGG pride!

  The All-New Gallery is Up

The main menu above now contains the link to all-new OKGG Gallery, showcasing pictures from June's Lan Party. I've also moved all previous lan party pics on there as well. You can even leave comments and rate each picture too. Jeez, this website keeps getting better and better! ;)

Now That Was a Lan Party

Oh...My...Gawd... If you didn't come to the June Lan, you sorely missed out on one of the best lan parties in a LOOOONNGG time! Not only did we have two tournaments, but you also had your pick of games that were played. There was something for everyone this time around. Desert Combat, Battlefield 1942, Unreal Tournament 2003, Counterstrike, Operation Flashpoint, and even Tribes2 all made an appearance yesterday.

We had 28 players this month, 2-part timers: digital_grrl & fusion, the rest stayed all day. We also sold 17 shirts and 6 Badges!w00t!

The DC Tourney was a little, uh, how d'ya say...one-sided. DC version .38, Conquest gameplay, and the map Guadalcanal was the setup. The teams were divided up by Goahed in a very complicated manner: after everybody went to the middle of the mall, he came out and said, "you guys on the left are on team 1, and everyone on the right is team 2." So here were the teams:

Team 1: Scope, Brules, Sevnn, Goodboy, Goahed Makemyda, Despite, noescapes, MooseDog, Maxvla,
   WhipperSnapper, Sagz, and Lightning Crash
Team 2: k_os, Detox, MacDaddy, Mobius7, Bungle, Grim, PsYch0, Killaholic, Meathed, Shinobi, Dark,
   and Cast

Team 1 won the coin toss to choose Coalition/Opposition, and they chose to be Coalition making Team 2 be Opposition for the first round of play. And like always, on the second round, each team switches sides and goes at it again. Suffice it to say, Team 1 totally dominated both rounds :-) in a best of three, uh competition????

The UT2K3 Tournament was a different story however; it was very intense. The gameplay was Bombing Run with translocater and using the mutators Zoom Instagib, Low Gravity, and Quad Jump. Seeing as how 16 people wanted to play in the tourney, it seemed fitting that a 4v4 round-robin style mode of play would yield the best action. 4 captains were decided upon, and each chose a player from the remaining 12, until all players were picked. The teams came out like this, captains are denoted in yellow:

Team 1: Goodboy, Cast, Goahed, and Detox
Team 2: Shinobi, SuperDuck, Sevnn, and noescapes
Team 3: FuSiOn, Meathed, Sagz, and Mobius7
Team 4: k_os, MooseDog, MacDaddy, and ProGen

And the games played out like this:

  Round 1 Round 2 Round 3
versus: Team 1 Team 2 Team 1 Team 3 Team 1 Team 4
scores: 3 [24] [7] 0 [6] (OT) 3
versus: Team 3 Team 4 Team 2 Team 4 Team 2 Team 3
scores: 0 [21] 0 [20] [0] 0 (forfeit)

That last game between Teams 1 and 4 was probably the most heated game of the whole night. With Team 4 down a man (ProGen had to leave before the tournament was done), Team 4 scored a quick 3 points early in the game. However, Team 1 answered right back with another 3 about halfway through the match. The clock counted down, and it was sudden-death overtime. The gameplay got really intense then. What seemed like another 10 minutes passed with still no score. Detox was keeping me busy in his goal room, allowing Goodboy, Cast, and noescapes the chance they needed to get into our base. By the time Detox finally nailed me, I spawned back in our base only to see Cast's back as he hopped into our goal room. I'm now in hot pursuit, and just a split second before i nailed him from behind, he launches the ball into our goal to take the win. Now that's what I call a "Good Game!"

So the final results were tallied as so:

  Wins Losses
Team 1 2 1
Team 2 2 1
Team 3 0 3
Team 4 2 1

Since it was already almost midnight everyone elected to call it a draw between teams 1, 2 and 4. Team 3 went somewhere and hid :-).

Pictures will be coming soon. I'm working on an official OKGG theme for a Coppermine Gallery that I've recently installedon the web server. Be looking for a Gallery link above in the main menu. I'll post an update here as well when I'm finished. Itshould be by tomorrow night.

If you didn't come to the lan to preorder your official OKGG T-shirt, don't despair. Goahed will be taking checks and money orders for T-shirts until the end of this week. Go here for more info.

You might have noticed a new icon over on the left under the sponsors' listing. DFI has graciously sponsored a Lanparty KT400A, and you could be the lucky winner of this awesome U/V reactive motherboard. We will be doing some kind of a 1v1 tournament at July's Lan. We haven't decided on what game will be played, but as soon as the Staff decide on something, I'll post an update here, and i'm sure it will be talked about on the forums.

Whew that was a big update. Now go sign up for July's Lan. And get a friend to sign up while yer at it! That's all folks!

  OKGG T-Shirts Are a Go!

The shirts will be ready for July's Lan and for Quakecon 2003. OKGG Reprezentin'! Anyway, we will be taking preorders this Saturday for t-shirts. There's just one catch: you can't just say you want one, you have to pay the $15 for your shirt up front this Saturday. However, because you pay up front, you get a $5 discount! If you wait to buy your shirt when they come in, you have to pay $20!! So it's worth your while to get 'em for $15. Can't beat a deal like that now, can ya? So bring extra money to the lan this Saturday, and we'll see ya there.

  Quakecon Registration Starts Tonight

For those of you that don't know or just needed the reminder, registration for Quakecon 2003 will begin tonight at 9:00pm EST (that's 8pm our time). This is a first-come, first-serve registration. So to guarantee your spot in the BYOC, keep your browsers refreshing www.quakecon.org tonight at 8pm. I'll be using the "[OKGG]" tag in front of my name, and I hope others do the same. Let's get a kick-ass OKGG showing at qcon!

The May Lan Was a Blast!

The second OKGG has come and gone, and a good time was had by all. Most of the Staff were there by 9am or shortly thereafter, got everything setup, and then waited for the gamers. We were actually getting worried that it might be a Staff-only party, since people didn't start showing up around 10am like normal. But by 11, the room was filling up, and the games were commencing.

There was talk on the forums of having 3 tournaments--a UT2K3 tourney around 2pm, a Desert Combat tourney after dinner, and a CounterStrike tourney after that. However, there wasn't enough interesting in a UT tournament and the CS guys didn't show up, so there was no CS tournament as well.

The DC tourney did happen, however, and was a big hit, probably more so if you were on the winning team, since Team 1 swept the best-of-5 series with a 3-games-to-nothing streak. I guess I just know how to pick 'em since I was Team 1's captain. ;) We copied last month's style of play: 2 big teams, best-of series, flip for who starts as coalition/opposition (Team 2 won the flip and chose to start as Opposition), and the maps were "Lost Village" for the first two games and "Kursk" for the next two games, and we hadn't decided on a map if a 5th game was needed. The teams were broken up as such:

Team 1: k_os, Sevnn, Brules, ByPaSS, Bungle, Cast, Mobius7, Killaholic, MacDaddy, Skidz, and Goodboy
Team 2: Scope, Despite, Goahed, Shinobi, Detox, LC, StrikerV, StrikerX, Noescapes, Dark, Iturnos

Since we don't have a stats program keeping track of the games, I can't really give a play-by-play review of each game. Although, Team 1 swept the series, and sent Team 2 hobbling back from whence they came. Yar!

Oh man, were there a lot of pictures taken this month. Goahed and Brules both took pictures, so that I would have more work to do now. Double-deuce for each of ya. GGKTHX!

Thanks to all those who came out for May's lan party. Since we revised the "Minor Attendance" Rule so close to the Party, I wonder if word didn't spread quick enough to allow the under-18-year-olds to make plans to come the LAN. Hopefully, by June's LAN, we'll see our attendance numbers rise. So, spread the word about the OKGG to all your friends and even your enemies. Set the homepages on computer browsers in Best Buy and CompUSA among others. Be creative! Let's get a full house in June!

Minor Change in the Attendance Policy

Yes, the pun was intended. :P

It has come to the attention of the Staff of the OKGG that the 18-year-old attendance rule needed revising. So it has been revised as such: All persons who are 18 years old or older can attend the OKGG if he/she signs a liability waiver when checking-in. All persons who are 15 years old to 17 years old can attend the OKGG if his/her parent or legal guardian sign the liability waiver in person at check-in. All persons under the age of 15 can attend the OKGG if his/her parent or legal guardian sign the liability waiver in person at check-in and must stay with the child for the remainder of his/her time at the OKGG.

If this is unclear, please feel free to discuss this via email with a Staff member or in the OKGG Forums. We hope that by revising the attendance rules, we will see a greater turnout and more fresh meat for the fragging at future OKGG's.

  It was a Beautiful OKGG

If you don't know the story behind all the "beautiful" comments, here it is: at the lan party this past saturday, Sagz and others were trying out the New World Order demo, and Sagz made the comment, "It's like a beautiful Counterstrike." So needless to say, we keep ribbing him about it. ;)

Easter dampened our numbers, but the first OKGG was a blast thanks to those who did make it. Everything ran smoothly, many games were played, and much fun was had by all. Much thanks go out to all the rest of the staff for setting up, pluggin everyone in, running game servers, feeding everyone, organizing a tournament, and breaking down.

Yep, that's right, I said "tournament." Since the Desert Combat .3N mod was released and it was gaining so much support in the forums, it was only fitting that that's what the game preference would be for the tournament. Wowever, we did it a little differently this month. The participants were separated into two large teams, each member being alternately chosen by the team captains, evisr8r and Despite. The team that wins 2 out of 3 will win the braggin' rights for the next month. The map and game style was Bocage and Conquest, respectively. So now that you have the setup, on to the results.

Due to a coin toss, evisr8r's team started as the Coalition and cleanly won the first game. The second game was more nail-bitingly suspenseful. evisr8r's team needed one more point to win, but Despite's team beat the odds, came back, and kept evisr8r's team from the 2-0 series shutout. But in the third game, evisr8r's team prevailed and were victorious. You can see evisr8r and his team in picture 48 below. The game play was very intense, and if you didn't play in the tourney, you sorely missed out!

To celebrate the first OKGG, Goahed Makemyda took LOTS of pictures.

Because of the sheer number of pics, I'm not feeling creative enough to quip every pic with a funny caption like I had been doing with the OLP pics. Maybe next month...

That about wraps up this month's "Post Lan Party News Update." I hope we can see an even better turnout for May's Party than we saw in April. Until then, I'll be practicing my DC skills so that i don't get pwned as much at next month's festivities. See ya then!

  Less Than 24 Hours Left

This is so exciting! There's about 14 hours until setup time of the first Oklahoma Gamer Group Lan Party, and we've got a full registration list. I hope everyone who's signed up can make it. And remember, if you can't make it, let me know, and I'll remove your name from the roster. I'll see everyone tomorrow for some serious gaming action! w00t!

  The Votes Are In

I finally got my scripts working to tally the votes from the signups. With two weeks left until the first OKGG, Battlefield 1942 is the top dog of this lan with a total of 55 votes so far. Counterstrike and Unreal Tournament 2003 are the next closest with only 19 votes a piece.

41 people have already signed up for the inaugural OKGG. With two weeks to ago, can we achieve a full house of 54 players our first time out? I hope so! Bring a friend, bring many friends!

  Remodeling Still Underway

As you can see, we are still remodeling and putting the final touches on the website. We've taken some criticisms and suggestions and improved upon them. One thing that's in the works is a page dedicated to the Staff, complete with pictures and short write-up on each, just so you know how kick-ass all the Staff really are (and also so you know who to bitch to or about at the lan ^_^ ).

If and when I hear of anything else of importance, I'll keep you guys posted.
